Water Works!

Hi everyone,
It’s World Water Day today: a day to celebrate the importance of clean water access! 783 million people still live without safe water and 2.5 billion without anywhere to go to the toilet, so let’s spread some awareness on this important issue.
WaterAid have created this video as part of their ‘Water Works’ campaign, which is well worth a look: http://t.co/jCsA2Gwg.
The ‘Water Works’ campaign champions the importance of water health and sanitation to make world leaders aware of the millions of easily-preventable deaths due to poor water, as they meet to discuss water health in Washington DC during April! More information can be found here: http://www.waterworks.me/
We’ll be outside the library from 12-2 today campaigning today (there may even be a toilet costume involved) and then we have our amazing fundraising event Taste For Life TONIGHT at 8pm in the Debating Hall, Teviot!
It’s the perfect occasion to celebrate World Water Day with a sensory Tour du Monde - there’ll be Singaporean food, as well as entertainment from every corner of the globe: Banghra, Salsa, Swing Dance, Latin Jazz, African and Arabic, Drumming, DJ, …and all for only £4!

Happy World Water Day and see you tonight, Daniel (Secretary)

New Committee

It’s the time of year again as we pass the torch on to a new committee! Our AGM was earlier this evening and this is your new committee for 2012/3:

  • Co-Presidents: Becky and Jennie
  • Secretary: Sarah
  • Treasurer: Chloe
  • Social Secretaries: Catrina and Rachael
  • Head of Campaigns: Alice
  • Head of Salsa4Water: George

It’s all very exciting. This may not be my last email as secretary - as we still haven’t tallied up all the money raised this year - but thanks to everyone who’s supported us this year and donated their time and money to this wonderful cause.

Weekly Minutes

Hello folks,

Here are this week’s meeting minutes:

AGM

Important news! We’ll be holding our AGM on March 20th! Many committee positions are up for grabs including President (or Co-President if you fancy spreading the tasks), Secretary, Treasurer, Social Secretary - as well as other positions, as we really want to delegate the jobs around. So if you’d like to be involved in the social media side, publicity etc then do come along and let us know. We’ll also make sure there’ll be a shiny ‘guide pack’ to all committee members to make next year as great as possible! It’s a while away so plenty of time to get thinking about next year…

Meadows Marathon

WaterAid are walking the Meadows Marathon this Sunday! We’ll be walking 10km with 10 litres of water to highlight the daily struggle of millions to get safe water. We’ve already raised over £700 for WaterAid so thank you so much for your donations! It would be great to see you on Sunday cheering us on - there will be costumes involved!

Here’s a link to the virgin money page if any one’s feeling generous (or parents, hint hint): http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/wateraidedinburgh
